Warhawk features a wide variety of weapons in a wide variety of mediums. They incorporate the key feature of Warhawk; Balance. Each weapon have it's pro's and cons, making Warhawk a balanced and challenging game. Most notably are the aerial weapons and troop weapons, which are the only collectible weapons, all other are weapon platforms.
A troop is defined as a soldier that have not entered a vehicle. A troop can protect him / her self with any weapon he / she carries, Knowing how to use the weapons can mean the difference between life and death, and each weapon have a few tricks attached to it.
The default weapon, with infinite ammo. It is also considered to be the weakest weapon in Warhawk, though not many people know that you can achieve the same firing rate as the rifle by tapping the R1 button.
The second default weapon. Even though the knife have a one hit kill, it have a relatively short range, and at times it is very hard to land a hit with it. A common myth is that you are invisible on the mini map when having the knife equipped, this is not all true. Even so, the knife is a versatile weapon, always useful for close quarter combat.
The rifle is one of the most commonly used troop weapons in Warhawk. The relatively high firerate and magazine capacity makes it a very handy weapon in almost every situation on the ground. Remember aiming at head, as head shots give more damage. Also, when someone shoots at you jumping can mean less damage, but remember that if you aim at the head then, you will get more misses.
The Rocket Launcher is the most powerful troop weapon in Warhawk, capable of locking on to tanks and Warhawks. Even though it fires explosive rockets, the damage area is just the right size so that it requires skill to handle in troop vs troop situations, and other situations where the rocket launcher does not auto lock. Learning how to take out troops with the rocket launcher will in most situations be extremely useful. To achieve an auto lock on, aim at the tank or Warhawk, make sure the cross hairs are red 1) then press and hold R1.
Flame thrower is a truly awesome weapon. It can damage anything that comes in it's way, even tanks, though it does not have a good range. The flame thrower is also good for clearing areas of mines, but it should be done with care, as it easy to blow your self up in the process. It also seems that the closer you are to your target the more damage you do.
The sniper rifle is the second weapon that have one hit kill, but also very hard to achieve a hit with one. You could try to adjust the controller sensitiviy to achieve more control over your aiming. Also remember that pressing R3 so get the zoom up.
The landmine is a very useful and versatile weapon. It sticks to almost every surface, and have a good range. It is also a weapon that you can get creative with, and place on unortodox places 2) Also, placing it high up, and around corners proves very effective. Always remember to check for the beeping noise to hear if a mine is nearby.
Laser tag a position for an air strike, sit back and enjoy the explosion. The binoculars are the ultimate troop weapon to clear an area with many enemies close together. The range of a binocular is virtually without limits, and it have a potent damage area. You also need to remember to compensate for movement, it takes a while to tag the area, then it takes a while before the air strike hits.
The Bio Field Generator is one of the weapons introduced in a patch. It allows troops to heal, and even damage members from the other team.
When your vehicle is damaged, the wrench is your best friend. You can also damage any vehicle with an enemy inside it. The range of the wrench is the same as that of the knife, so you need to know how to move around if you are planning to take out an enemy tank or similar, you need to learn how to move. Learn the maps and take advantage of the terrain, and this weapon will be of great help, both as a defensive weapon and offensive weapon.
As combat in Warhawk is both in the air and on the ground, it also features a range of air weapons for the players to enjoy, and cause mayhem with.
The machine gun in the Warhawk is your best friend while flying. Keep the bursts short, to avoid over heating, and always use it in combination with other weapons. Learn how to tap R1 fast, the faster you can tap, the more damage you do.
All Warhawk is equipped with 5 swarmers at the start. These weapons lock on fast, and you can lock on multiple swarmers at a time. They are not very fast, and is very easily dodged by an experienced pilot, even a new pilot don't have much troubles with dodging these. To maximize the probability for a hit, try to release the swarmers as close as possible to the target, boost in and release. Swarmers can also lock on to anti air turrets
The homing missile is one of the most most powerful anti air weapons in Warhawk. Even though it is slow to accelerate, once it gains momentum it is hard to dodge, and causes massive damage when it hits. Even though it is harder to dodge a homing missile than a swarmer, it is not impossible. To maximize your chances of a hit, boost in before releasing the missile and release it as close as possibly to the enemy Warhawk. Homing missiles can also lock on to anti turrets.
The Lightening Gun is probably one of the most versatile weapons a Warhawk can carry. A fully charged lightening gun can clear a large area of mines, uncharged zaps can take down tanks and warhawk quick, and are extremely hard to dodge, especially if you are up against an experienced pilot. Learning to use this weapon effectively will be prove to be very useful.
The ultimate Air to Surface weapon. A remote controlled tactical warhead, with a big ass blast area will. This weapon will cause mayhem in any area with enemies closely packed. Just fire and pilot it to a group of enemies and watch your kill count go up.
Cluster Bombs are just that, bombs that quickly spread out over an area, causing damage to anything close by. Useful for clearing out mines, taking out groups of troops and vehicles. Also, by releasing the cluster bombs close to the ground will cause them to group closer together, causing more damage to a smaller area.
The ultimate defense. Missiles locked on to you, release a chaff and watch those lock ons disappear. Remember you can't carry that many of them at a time, so do not use them in vain.
If you feel the need of disappearing, activate the stealth, and you are invisible. But remember, people can still see you, though not as clearly as usual, and even you even make more noise that without stealth. Another advantage is that nobody can lock on their weapons to you, not missiles or machine guns, but you can still take damage.
